Dreamworld's Thunder River Rapids Ride Closed For Good

The owners of Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld, Ardent Leisure, have announced the Thunder River Rapids ride will be permanently decommissioned.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, Ardent Leisure Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Deborah Thomas announced the ride's permanent closure following the deaths of four park-goers two weeks ago.

"Out of respect for the memories of Cindy Low, Roozbeh Araghi, Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett, and their deeply affected families, the ride will be permanently decommissioned," she said in the statement.

"The closure of the ride is the only respectful and appropriate course of action."

Ms Thomas also announced that Pitt & Sherry, an independent expert engineering firm will lead an external review of all Dreamworld and Whitewater World rides and related operating systems.

While the families of the victims are also set to be invited back to the theme park, when it is appropriate, to create a permanent memorial for their loved ones.
