The World’s Oldest Woman Reveals The Food That Is The Secret To Longer Life
The truth is out!
The world’s oldest woman, Emma Morano, will turn 117 on November 17. And now the Italian citizen has revealed which item of food is behind her longevity.
It’s the humble egg!
Emma eats at least two eggs a day, a habit that started when she was just 20 years old. At the time a doctor diagnosed her with anaemia and advised that she eat two raw eggs and one cooked egg each day.
90 years later she's still going strong - and her diet is kept incredibly simple.
“That’s it,” she told Agence-France Press. “And cookies. But I do not eat much because I have no teeth.”
Her doctor confirmed that Emma doesn’t follow any of the typical nutritional advice.
“Emma has always eaten very few vegetables, very little fruit. When I met her, she ate three eggs per day, two raw in the morning and then an omelette at noon, and chicken at dinner,” her doctor Carlo Bava said.
Interestingly these days she also avoids eating meat regularly.
“She doesn’t like it anymore and someone told her it causes cancer,” Dr Bava said.
Emma hasn’t left her two-room apartment in twenty years, and isn’t planning a birthday party. However she says that people will just turn up anyway.
“People come. I don’t invite anybody but they come. From America, Switzerland, Austria, Turin, Milan … They come from all over to see me,” she said.
