Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 Is No More
Electronics Company Pulls The Plug On Embattled Product
Samsung Electronics Co. has announced it has discontinued production on their controversial Galaxy Note 7 smartphones.
The decision to pull the plug follows reports of batteries from both the original and replacement models catching fire.
Samsung Australia released a statement overnight for customers who have already purchased the discontinued product.
Experts say halting production permanently could cost Samsung up to $US17 billion and harshly tarnish its reputation.
Samsung are yet to confirm if they have identified the exact cause of the fires in replacement devices, although officials in Seoul said it was looking at several possibilities including batteries.
