Queensland police are warning people to be on the lookout for a traffic fine email scam doing the rounds.
Officers in Mackay were made aware of the scam, when it was sent to a cop's spouse.
The Road Policing Unit officer's partner was one of a number of residents to contact police after receiving an email urging them to open a link.
"The title of the email that was recieved was “Re:Notification 715917018” but it is likely to vary," police said in a statement.

"If you click the link you will discover malware (malicious software) – likely ransomware!"
Police have urged anyone who may have received similar emails not to open the link and to report it to authorities.
Queensland Police only email traffic offences if the person being fined agrees to it after being pulled over.
