Dozens Injured After Man Allegedly Sets Fire To Melbourne Bank
A bank in the Melbourne suburb of Springvale was reportedly deliberately set on fire earlier today.
Ambulance Victoria said in a statement that 27 people were treated for injuries sustained in the fire, with six people taken to the Alfred Hospital suffering from serious burns. 21 other people including three children were taken to local hospitals with breathing problems.
Reports indicate that a man deliberately set the Commonwealth Bank on Springvale Rd on fire.
"The man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition under police guard," a police spokesperson said.
"Our first priority is the safety of our staff and customers and as a result the branch will remain closed for the rest of the day," the Commonwealth Bank said in a statement.
"Our response team is on site, and we are working closely with local authorities and emergency services."
More to come.
